Treating SCID

As a general policy, stem cell transplant has been the most effective treatment for infants with SCID. Usually, the transplant is done froma sibling or, occasionall, a parent.

A few successful cases of gene therapy have been recorded in recent history. Researchers have developed a method of removing some of the patient's own stem cells, and after careful treatment, replacing them.

Several other experimental types of treatment are currently being tested around the world.
