Samual Drew Hellier
SCID patient, 2001

Ideally, a child with SCID wold not be in contact with any germs. Realistically, there are several things parents can do to reduce the risk of infection.

Most importantly, a child with SCID should never be immunized with a live virus.
Many children with SCID wear a mask in order to prevent inhilation of many air-borne germs, as well as to warn others to beware of the special circumstances.
